Sometimes after you finish a really good series, it’s hard to find the energy to pick a new one to watch. Often, you just want to watch it all over again. This post will provide you with 4 great options to try, so you don’t have to risk wasting your time on something not worth it.
Here are 4 of the best TV shows streaming right now. (Disclaimer: current at time of writing: March 2024).
1. Shōgun (2024 -)
Shōgun, Disney Plus’ latest offering, transports viewers back to feudal Japan, providing a captivating blend of history, drama, and cultural exploration. Set against a backdrop of political intrigue and conflict, the series follows the journey of an English sailor who becomes embroiled in the complex power struggles of the samurai class. It is an excellent historical fish-out-of-water tale and a must-watch for 2024.
2. Fargo (2014 – )
FX’s crime anthology Fargo has been around for a while – since 2014 in fact. Throughout its 5 seasons, which each take place in a different time period and centre around new characters, viewers have been treated with a rich sense of American Midwestern identity and humour, which honour the Coen’s 1996 film which the series spawned from. Recently, in late 2023, season 5 was released, which was a welcome return to form after a slightly unsure fourth season. Starring screen favourites Juno Temple, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jon Hamm (and many more), it is worth getting on the Fargo train before it comes to the end of its run.
3. 3 Body Problem (2024 – )
The new Netflix series 3 Body Problem presents a captivating blend of science fiction and mystery, drawing viewers into a thrilling exploration of humanity’s encounter with an enigmatic alien civilization. Created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, creators of Game of Thrones and Alexander Woo, 3 Body Problem looks to be a very promising newcomer within the pantheon of sci-fi TV, featuring a talented (and familiar) cast and typically high production values.
4. One Day (2024)
Netflix’s decade-spanning new mini-series One Day, is a genuinely heartfelt exploration of life’s twists and turns, interwoven with themes of love, friendship, and personal evolution. With star turns from its two leads Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, the timeless love story it tells stands as a testament to the power of TV storytelling in capturing snapshots of life’s big moments. It arguably outshines its 2011 film counterpart, expertly telling its narrative in its 14 short episodes.
